Terms of use for Atlas

Last updated: 25 October 2026

This is a translation. The German version is authoritative.

1. Scope and provider

These terms apply to the use of Atlas at https://atlasrad.app. The provider is [LEGAL_NAME], [LEGAL_ADDRESS] (see the imprint). They apply to everyone who uses Atlas. As a guest (joining with a code or link), sections 2, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 10 apply to you.

2. What Atlas is

Atlas is a free teaching platform for radiology. It is in a test phase (alpha/beta): features may change, contain errors or be removed, and data may be lost despite backups. Keep your own copies of important content.

Atlas is not a medical device. Its content, images, measurements and displays are for teaching only and must not be used to diagnose or treat patients. Atlas is not an archive (PACS) and not part of any patient record.

3. Account and access

  • Sign-up may be restricted to certain e-mail domains (e.g. those of an institution).
  • Keep the mailbox you receive sign-in codes in safe from others. Accounts are personal and must not be shared.
  • There is no entitlement to an account or to any particular availability.

4. What you may upload and write

Upload only de-identified teaching material. In detail:

  1. No identifiable patient data. Images, case descriptions, notes, chat messages, consult requests and file names must not contain anything that could identify a patient: no names, dates of birth, patient or case numbers, admission dates, rare combinations of features with a place or time reference, no photos of faces, tattoos or similar. Atlas's automatic de-identification is an aid, not a guarantee: check images (including for burned-in text) and texts yourself.
  2. You need the right to do so. Only upload material you are allowed to use and share for teaching: your institution must permit the use of de-identified images for teaching, and you need the necessary rights to third-party texts, figures and slides. This is your responsibility.
  3. No unlawful content, no insults, no advertising, no malware.
  4. Guests: choose a display name you are happy for every participant to see on the leaderboard. A nickname is fine.

If you find content that breaks these rules (e.g. a name in an image), delete it immediately, empty the trash, and report it to [LEGAL_EMAIL].

5. Who sees your content

Content is visible to the members of the space it is in, and to people you share it with (share link, consult, presentation, homework). In presentations and homework all participants see the leaderboard. Details are in the privacy policy.

6. Rights to content

Your content stays yours. You grant the provider a free, non-exclusive right to store it, process it technically (e.g. convert, downscale, back up) and show it to the people you choose, as long as this is needed to run Atlas. Content you create in a team space may be further edited and presented by its members under the space's rules; it stays there (without your name) if you delete your account.

7. Action on violations

The provider may block or delete content that breaks these terms, or is reasonably suspected to (in particular identifiable patient data), without notice, and may block accounts. Serious or repeated violations can lead to an account being deleted.

8. Liability

Atlas is provided free of charge and without warranty of availability, freedom from errors or permanent storage. The provider is liable without limit for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and under the German Product Liability Act (cf. § 309 no. 7 German Civil Code, BGB). Liability is otherwise excluded, in line with the standard of liability for services provided free of charge (§§ 521, 599 BGB). Users are responsible for their own content; you indemnify the provider against third-party claims arising from your content, to the extent you are responsible for the infringement.

9. End of use

You can delete your account yourself at any time (user menu → Edit profile → Delete my account). The provider may discontinue the service or individual features with 4 weeks' notice, or shorter during the test phase, and will inform registered users by e-mail so they can save their content.

10. Changes and governing law

The provider may change these terms. Registered users are told about material changes at least 2 weeks in advance by e-mail; anyone who doesn't agree can delete their account before then. The law of the Federal Republic of Germany applies. For consumers, this choice of law applies only so far as it does not deprive them of the protection of mandatory provisions of the country where they habitually reside (Art. 6(2) Rome I Regulation). If a provision is invalid, the rest remain valid (§ 306 BGB).
